Cape Town – A 55-year-old man appeared in the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate's Court in the Eastern Cape to be accused of murdering his 88-year-old mother, the Eastern Cape Police said Monday.
It is claimed that the son and mother had a misunderstanding on Friday night at their home in Emntla Locality, Ngcwazi Village, in Ngqamakhwe.
According to spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha, the suspect would have killed his mother with an ax. The police said that the grandchildren of the deceased were in a separate room and were afraid to stop the father because he was armed with an ax.
"The grandchildren noticed that their grandmother had died only in the early hours of Saturday, and it is not clear at the moment why the suspect had a misunderstanding with his mother that caused him to fatally injure her," said Manatha.
The deceased was identified as Nogem Mahamba.
Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier General Ngangema Xakavu was shocked by the murder of an old and defenseless woman.
