From despair to a doctorate in just six years



"I did not intend to ask my parents for money, because I left with a pledge to my father not to worry me financially." Hard times do not last, but tough men & # 39 ;, is what my father has always taught me, and I've kept those words often, "he said.

Eventually, Ilori devoured his pride and raised money with the extended family in Nigeria, registered late for his degree in business and later joined the UWC / Oklahoma State University exchange program in 2012, helping young people in Khayelitsha and Gugulethu.

"I have taught and supported new companies in the development of entrepreneurship, skill development and capacity building," he said.

He traveled by train through his honors program, often asleep in the UWC library because he missed the last train. After graduating, he went to a master's program and started his PhD in 2015.
