Huge delays on N3 at Midmar are expected, because Eskom replaces the stolen cables

It is "urgently needed" to close the N3 toll road for all traffic at Midmar Dam (between the Howick / Midmar and Howick North / Tweedie junctions) in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday morning, so that Eskom can replace stolen overground power conductors, the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) said in a statement on Friday.

This area has had no power since the theft.

"Because all northern and southern lanes are closed, traffic congestion and delays can be expected between 08:00 and 10:00 [on Friday].

"The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) and Umngeni Municipal Traffic will manage traffic accommodation during the closure and the Route Patrol Teams of N3TC will be ready to offer further assistance."

The N3TC said that road users could obtain essential traffic information through the N3 Toll concession 24-hour helpline on 0800 N3 Help (0800 63 4357) or get real-time traffic updates by following N3TC on Twitter: @ N3Route.

N3TC manages the N3 toll route between Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and Heidelberg in Gauteng.
