The police are negotiating with a group of about 50 protesters who have brought traffic to a standstill on the M4 motorway in Durban.
The spokesman for the Ethekwini metro, Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad, said that the police force for public order has asked the demonstrators to spread because their meeting is illegal, and that is in line with the people group Pet Against Petrol and Paraffin Price Increases (Pappi).
"The police are negotiating with them, but arrests will be made if they refuse to distribute." Traffic is heavily supported on that highway, "Sewpersad said.
Pappi national convener Visvin Reddy said Friday's protest resisted devastating rising fuel price rises and that they were prepared to be arrested.
