Lesufi visits the Benoni school after a suspected gangster burning



The police are investigating an incident in which members of the community in Daveyton, Benoni reportedly lit a suspected gangster in an area close to a secondary school on Wednesday.

Gauteng MEC for education Panyaza Lesufi is expected to visit Unity Secondary School on Friday.

Spokesman for the education department Steve Mabona said the community had encountered an outburst and set fire to the man in an area next to the school.

"It is claimed that members of the community disrupted education when they were the supposed gang member of the school to point out a [pupil] who is supposed to be part of the gang. ] tried to escape the gang but was addressed by the community in full view [pupils]. "

The gang is suspected of committing terrible crimes in Daveyton, including theft and murder.

"The alleged gang member is currently recovering in hospital after sustaining burns," said Mabona.

Les ufi condemned the disruption of education and urged the community to "stay calm and let the law go its way".

"Schools are centers of teaching and learning and they must be treated as such," he said.

Police spokesman Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said that there was increased visibility in the area.

"The police appeals to everyone who has seen the incident to help with information about the arrest of the perpetrators."
