King William's town – Ngqamakhwe police arrested a 55-year-old man for the alleged murder of his 88-year-old mother, the Eastern Cape police said Saturday.
"It is claimed that both the son and the mother had a misunderstanding at their home on Friday, August 17, 2018 after [9 pm] in Emntla, Ngcamazi, Ngqamakhwe," said Captain Jackson Manatha.
"The suspect would have used an ax to kill his life deadly mother in the night in question.The grandchildren of the deceased were in a separate room and were afraid to stop their father because he was armed with an ax. The grandchildren noticed that their grandmother had died in the early hours of Saturday, August 18, 2018, "he said.
It was not yet clear why the man "had a misunderstanding with his mother" had attacked her. The man was accused of murder and was due to appear in Ngqamakhwe Magistrate's Court on Monday for murder. The deceased was identified as Nogem Mahamba, Manatha said.
