JOHANNESBURG – The police are following protests in Lawley at Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

Residents of the informal settlement have blocked the road today with boulders and debris, so that motorists can no longer pass. It is unclear what the protest is about.

Wayne Lover, the Johannesburg police, says that motorists should use alternative routes.

"More officers have been sent to the main road in Lawley to establish the reason for protest and to keep the situation safe for motorists." Motorists are advised to avoid the Old Lawley Road for now, they can use the K43 as an alternative route. "
