Police investigate whether Veroeniging bomb suspect connected with KZN incidents

The police are investigating whether a man who was arrested in connection with the discovery of a suspected homemade explosive in a Vereeniging mosque is linked last month to the explosives found in Durban, the Hawks said Thursday.
The 36-year-old suspect is faced with accusations of illegal possession of explosives.
The man, who apparently is not known to the community of the Vereeniging suburb of Roshnee, was arrested on July 31 after he was arrested by security agents in the Masjid Taqwa mosque where he had attended a prayer service

Bomb-like devices were found in Woolworths stores in The Pavilion shopping mall and in Gateway mall.
Two explosive devices were found under two separate vehicles in Berea, north of Durban.
The police are also investigating whether the man can be linked to the deadly mosque attack in Verulam, north of Durban, in May.
An explosive device was found in the mosque a few days after three men killed one person and injured two others during an attack in the mosque.
The attackers, who we KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu has condemned the placement of devices in public places after the incidents in Durban for the Verulam community. He asked to pray in the mosque before he carried out the attack.
