DURBAN – Police Minister Bheki Cele says that the identity of a suspect arrested in connection with the assassination of official Sindiso Magaqa of the African National Congress (ANC) can not be revealed because it could endanger the case.
A man appeared in the courtroom on Thursday. He has been associated with the assassination of the Secretary-General of the former Secretary General of the African National Congress Youth League.
Magaqa was shot dead in July 2017, together with two other councilors, Nonstikelelo Mafa and Jabulile Mzizi.
Last year, Jabulani Mdunge, 38 years old, who was suspected as one of the contract killers in the assassination attempt, was shot by the authorities during a money robbery.
Cele says that the next step for researchers is to find the "masterminds" behind the murders. He says that the identity of the man who appeared in court can not be revealed.
"We are not obliged until we are certain that this will not jeopardize our investigations in the future."
The African National Congress and the Economic Freedom Fighters also weighed and congratulated the authorities on booking their claims.
