Statistics South Africa has announced South Africa's most popular baby name for 2017 on the basis of the country's birth rates.
In 2017 the most popular first names for girls were Enzokuhle ("Do good" in isiZulu), Melokuhle ("Stand for good" in isiZulu) and then Amahle ("Beautiful" in isiZulu).
The most common middle names were Precious, Princess and Angel.
The most popular first name for boys was Enzokuhle ("Do good" in isiZulu), Lethabo ("Happiness" in seSotho, sePedi and seTswana) and Melokuhle ("Get up for good" in isiZulu).
The middle names of the most common boys were Junior, Blessing and Gift.

Provincially, Liam is the most popular boy name in the Western Cape, while Mia is the most popular among girls.
Luthando is the most popular boy name of Gauteng and Lethabo for girls.
