A driver whose car crashed into a river is one of three people who died from a number of accidents in the Durban area on Sunday, paramedics said.
The driver, probably in his twenties, was killed and his passenger suffered moderate injuries after the vehicle in which they were traveling, running to a river.
They had traveled on Sunday morning on Inanda Road in Springfield Park when the driver apparently lost control.
When paramedics appeared on the scene, "the vehicle was submerged in water," said Rescue Care spokesman Garrith Jamieson.
The driver was declared dead on the spot. The passenger survived with moderate injuries and was stabilized locally by paramedics.
"Once stabilized, a rescue operation was taken to collect the wounded man from the river below by SAPS Search and Rescue and Durban Fire Department."

Meanwhile, two more accidents happened on the N3 Durban Bound on Sunday afternoon.
At the first incident, "just after 1:30 PM, Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to discover that a single vehicle had fallen over and rested on the busy highway side." Six occupants had sustained various injuries and were stabilized. on the spot … before it is transported to different Durbanse hospitals ".
"While the recovery was underway, a secondary collision occurred just after 3:00 PM when a motorcyclist lost control of the middle medium," Jamieson said.
When paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident, they found the man, presumably in his fifties, at a cardiac arrest.
"Despite resuscitation efforts, the man's injuries were too serious and he died on the spot."
Also on Sunday afternoon, at the M1 at Chatsmed Hospital, a man was killed after he lost control of his car and it fell over.
"Rescue Care paramedics came to the site to find the only vehicle on the roof at the side of the road."
The driver had sustained major injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
Official investigation into the accidents is under way.
