The man dies after the car crashes into the river in Springfield Park.

There is no clear indication of how the vehicle left the road at this stage. When Rescue Care emergency services arrived shortly after the accident, they found the car in the water.

Garrith Jamieson of the service says they discovered that there were two occupants in the car and both in their early thirties.

"Unfortunately, one person had suffered fatal injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he became" deceased "on the scene," he said.

"The second person – presumably a passenger – was stabilized before being transported to a nearby hospital," said Jamieson.

"At this stage, the events that have been discussed are unknown, but all authorities were present, including SAPS Search and Rescue and the Durban Fire Department," he said.
