An internal investigation has been initiated into the death of a man who died of a head wound he sustained while he reportedly tried to obstruct metro agents in the pursuit of suspects in Manenberg.
According to the City, officials attached to the gang and drugs team and the stabilization unit responded to a complaint from people who gambled, drank and smoked on a street corner in the area just before 9 pm on Saturday.
"It was during the pursuit of the suspects that a member of the public apparently tried to hinder agents, but fell and hit his head," it said in a statement.
"The officers tried to help the wounded on the spot, but decided to take the man to the hospital when a crowd was gathered and the situation became hostile."
The man was taken to the Heideveld Day Hospital where he was treated, but died later as a result of his injuries.
The city said it is deeply troubled & # 39; was due to accusations that the husband had been deliberately injured by agents.
"We are investigating this issue internally and we are also cooperating fully with the South African police to fathom the bottom of the incident."
Provincial police spokesman captain FC van Wyk confirmed the death of a 44-year-old man.
"A post-mortem will be performed to determine the cause of death. A case of murder is registered for investigation," he said.
