The police launches manhunt on the killer of the hostel in KwaMashu

Durban – A 36-year-old policeman was killed on Friday night at about 6 pm in fighting with alleged suspects in the KwaMashu hostel.

Another officer, 28, was shot in his leg and given treatment in a hospital in Durban.

The police said the Ethekwini Inner North Cluster officers were operating operations in the infamous hostel when they heard gunshots coming from an informal settlement in the hostel.

Spokesman Brigadier General Jay Naicker said that two armed suspects carried firearms when the police responded to the gun.

"The suspects fled along the railway and fired shots at the two policemen, one policeman was fatally injured and the second sustained bullet wounds in his leg.There is a manhunt on the way for the suspects," Naicker said.

Police experts worked on the spot while a manhunt was on the way.

The acting provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has vowed to track down the murderers.

"We will not rest until they are found and we will not leave any stone unturned, we also call on the community to come forward and expose these villains." Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of the late police and we wish our colleague in the hospital a speedy recovery, "he said.
