For the advance of Uber, this is the proposal by which the government of Buenos Aires will redefine the activities of the taxis.

Apps and card payment

The 37,000 taxis that are active in the city have the duty to have this service. In addition, everyone must use an app to work

While Uber's normalization process continues its unrelenting march after a Supreme Court ruling legalizing the activity, taxi drivers must not only meet this competition but also new regulations to continue to provide their services.

The changes will take place more than anything in the area of the city of Buenos Aires, where the government, under the leadership of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, imposes stricter rules.

In fact, the renovation comes at an unfavorable time, with journeys that have dropped by nearly 30%, increases in all costs and a sharp drop in the price of the license that of the $ 280,000 it took a year ago. now it is paid close to $ 140,000.

Despite inflation, the last increase was in March, when the chip cost $ 3.26, with a flag drop of $ 32.60, which is equivalent to 10 chips. In the case of nightlife it costs $ 3.91 and the flag drops $ 39.10.

In this context, taxi drivers will now need about a year to adapt to new facilities launched by the Buenos Aires government to accelerate the activity. The initiative is called the Taxis modernization plan and, in addition to its main aspects, will oblige payment by credit cards and debit cards, in addition to the use of mobile applications.

Total modernization

Although some taxi agencies already offer apps and card payments, the 37,000 taxis circulating in the federal capital will be mandatory from the second semester of 2019.

"In recent years, the sector has made great efforts to integrate OKM mobile phones, reducing the average age of 7 and a half years in 2007 to 4 and a half years in 2016," says a Transportation Statement. Secretariat in Buenos Aires. that the contents of the plan are detailed.

"We want taxi's to have new tools to drive their growth," adds the document, which also explains that the plan has been launched "to improve the mobility experience of the residents and the service and work of the driver & # 39; s ".

In this sense, Juan José Mendez, transport secretary of the city of Buenos Aires, explains that "all the vehicles that make up the fleet have air conditioning and ABS, while 80% work on gas." This makes them the least polluting in Latin America and makes them one of the most sustainable fleets in the world. "

The official believes that the new rules that will be applied from next year 'will provide a leap in quality service and experience of neighbor mobility.'

In this way To request a taxi, you must use at least one enabled app with which you can receive travel orders. At the moment only 17% of passengers ask for a taxi through the radio taxi companies, while another 79% do it directly on the streets and only 4% do so via an application. In addition, about 14,000 units work as Radiotaxis.

Safer traveling

The modernization of the sector aims to encourage the use of apps "as a reliable opportunity for the user and the taxi driver", says Mendez. The passenger who requests a taxi by mobile phone can check whether all drivers and vehicles meet the required safety conditions. by the GCBA, such as the professional driving license, qualifying insurance and related training, among others.

"It is not only a modern tool for ordering a taxi, but also for checking safety and quality of service; this benefits both passengers and drivers and allows you to pay for the journey with a credit card, debit card and cash, "the official assures.

Do not forget that the Buenos Aires government launched the BA Taxi app last April, which already has 7,400 active drivers, 100,000 user downloads and more than 100,000 travels. In order to regularize this system, private applications can register, be approved and approved in the style of those who already work, such as Del Plata, Premium, City Tax, New Taxi, Ask for it, Hello and Green Wave.

With regard to the mandatory use of credit cards and bank cards, it tries to modernize the way to order and pay for a taxi. The vehicles they must have this payment option in a mandatory form, either via an app or via a post or mPOS. It is a strong bet if you take into account that currently only 10% of the taxi rides are paid via electronic means of payment.

"The implementation of this point will standardize the service so that the passenger does not have to walk with cash and has more alternatives when taking a taxi," explains Mendez.

Towards gender equality

As an additional part of the plan, almost 2,000 taxi drivers will participate in the context of an official commitment to develop policies that build a society in which men and women have the same rights and opportunities.. Currently, 39,417 taxi drivers are only 736 women.

This is mainly due to the gender gap in the labor market, which is one of the biggest challenges. And the integration of these female taxi drivers for 2019 is based on three pillars, as determined by the government of Buenos Aires.

– Economic autonomy: they bet on a real work alternative with which they can develop their economic independence.

– Physical autonomy: BA Taxi has the option of a female taxi driver only for female users. Both for passengers who want to feel safe when ordering a taxi and drivers, since almost 70% of the trips by BA Taxi are made by women.

– Empowerment: The woman can choose the job she wants to develop. They decide which role they want to take more and more.

In this context, Paula Bisiau, Deputy Secretary of Sustainable and Safe Mobility of the city of Buenos Aires, explains that "gender inequality is a reality and the integration of 2000 taxi drivers is trying to offer a real alternative to women seeking independence and autonomy".

To add them, an option that is launched is a large number of taxis that are authorized to work and that do not have a driver. "We are going to generate a specific training for women so that they can become professional drivers, and through the chambers, guilds and business associations, they immediately offer them a chance at work," adds the official.

He also claims that the training lasts for 10 days and that women can be over 21, with a national or foreign driving license (more than a year old) and without a criminal record.
