A cricket player who raped a sleeping woman as part of a WhatsApp sex salad conquest game was beaten for being his victim & # 39; like a piece of meat & # 39; because he was imprisoned for five years.
Alex Hepburn, 23, was "fired" by the sick game aimed at sleeping with most women when he sexually assaulted the victim while "still confused" in his Worcester flat.
The Australian-born former CCC all-rounder from Worcestershire was sentenced to five years behind bars at Hereford Crown Court.
A judge beat the cricket player for his "horrible" and "arrogant" actions while deciding that Hepburn would be listed for life in the sex offender register.
Judge Jim Tindal told the "immature" cricket player that he and a former teammate had agreed to a "pathetic sexist game to collect as many sexual encounters as possible."
He added: "You probably thought it was boyish behavior back then. In reality it was filthy sexism.
"It demed women and trivialized rape – a word that you personally threw around slightly.
"Only now do you realize how serious rape is.
"You thought you were God's gift to women, you treated the victim like a piece of meat, not another person who deserves respect."
In what the judge a & # 39; brave & # 39; named victim impact, the woman attacked by Hepburn described her ordeal as & # 39; bad & # 39; and a & # 39; heinous crime & # 39 ;.
Judge Tindal praised her for having given evidence in two trials, and added, "I hope she will finally be able to look at her future that I know will be clear."
Hepburn had entered the court today in the hands of his girlfriend Lucy Street, who supported him throughout the trial.
Hepburn & # 39; s lawyer, Michelle Heeley, QC, said her client had shown regret.
The cricket player had been crying after being found guilty of rape in a new trial earlier this month. He was acquitted of a further rape count regarding the same victim.
The four-day trial at Worcester Crown Court had previously heard how the woman, who cannot be called for legal reasons, mistakenly thought she was having sex with Hepburn & then 39-year-old countryman Joe Clarke after meeting him at a nightclub in April 2017.
She told the jury that she had had sex with England, Clarks, Lions' batsman, who left his bedroom early in the morning to be sick in a bathroom where he became unconscious.
Hepburn told the judges that he had drunk the equivalent of 20 bottles of beer before he found the woman alone on a mattress in the flat he shared with Mr. Clarke.
Claiming that he reasonably believed the woman had consented, Hepburn told the jurors she had rolled into bed, kissed him, and agreed to & # 39; normal & # 39; sexual agreements between men and women.
But the woman told the court that she was sleeping at the beginning of the meeting and believed that she was with Mr. Clarke until Hepburn spoke with an Australian accent.
& # 39; STAT GAME & # 39;
While investigating this month's new investigation, Hepburn admitted that he was sending "disgusting, awful and shameful" WhatsApp messages while setting the rules of the sexual conquest with other cricketers.
WhatsApp exchanges that suggested that Hepburn had had sex with 60 women during a previous & # 39; statgame & # 39 ;, were not presented to the judges who sentenced him.
Another message in which the all-rounder described himself and Mr. Clarke as a "pair of tens" who "should hit models" was also declared inadmissible at a hearing before the trial.
In the message written to Clarke at the start of the 2017 cricket season, Hepburn added: "It's a shame there aren't any f *** ing models in Worcester. When we get there, we hit them. & # 39;
In another report that the jury did not hear what seemed to be a nickname, Hepburn boasted: "I have to understand that Hepperdawg is a horny c *** and without you keeping my head straight and doing lost things."
RULES OF THE & # 39; STAT CHAT & # 39; GROUP
Alex: "Rules of the stat game, it starts on the first night that Joe returns (from tour).
Alex: "Must be fresh, names, age, black or white, your rating, their rating.
Alex: "The loser must buy food and the second loser must buy drinks, the winner can enjoy a free night."
Alex: "Excited as boys, Clarkey's groins must be legit? (Not prostitutes) may the best man win, P.S. We should probably be tested this summer."
Joe: "No re-heats allowed (have sex with the same person)."
Tom: "Joe, you only won last year because the heppdog gave you three balls (with a threesome).
Alex: & # 39; There I drag them home and you rap them.
Alex: "Can we do nicknames?"
Joe: "Yes, we should, my nickname is king (crown emoji)."
Alex: "Mine is (battery emoji) because I can go on all night #breakthepuss"
Tom: "(Flowing man emoji) because I probably went home alone that night."
Alex: "Eyebrows (tick), hair (tick), tan (tick), f ** k."
Joe: "I won't have my bed down there, so just bring a mattress. So if we chop it, it will have to be in your bed."
Alex: "F ** k my boots, we are gone."
Australian-born Hepburn came to the UK at the age of 17 to join Worcestershire CCC.
The court heard that on the night of March 31, 2017, Hepburn had drunk about 15 alcoholic units with his friends at the Sin and Bushwhackers nightclubs in the city center.
