Israel Broussard, the star of Netflix's latest runaway smash To All The Boys I Loved Before, has offered an apology after fans have unearthed a series of offensive tweets.

The 24-year-old actor, who plays love in the new movie, has vowed to become a more informed and well-educated version of myself & # 39; in a statement he made three days ago.

Among the messages dating back to late in October 2016, he appears to be a & # 39; homosexual & # 39; to refuse a role, he accuses the Black Lives Matter movement for causing divisions in the US, and mock Japan after an earthquake in Tōhoku in 2011.

The latter is even more worrying for the new film, which proudly has three Asian-American actresses in the central family, with Lana Condor as lead actress Lara Jean Covey.

The tweets have since been removed from his account and instead there is a statement that reads: & # 39; I am very sorry for my inappropriate and insensitive words and sympathies on social media.

& # 39; I take full responsibility for my actions and offer my sincere apologies. This was a crucial life lesson for me. & # 39;

I am committed to becoming a more informed and well-educated version of myself. Much love – Israel. & # 39;

To All The Boys I Loved Before has become a hit movie for the streaming giant and is an adaptation of the novel trilogy by Jenny Han.

It follows Lara Jean Song Covey and what happens when her high school world is turned upside down as love letters she wrote to the boys she liked, mysteriously broadcast without warning.

In the film, Israel plays neighbor Josh, the recipient of one letter (who happens to be her neighbor and the ex-boyfriend of her older sister).

Awkward.

The film, which occupies plotting of both books one and two, has not yet been confirmed to get a sequel.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Netflix for further comments.
