The brother of Fremantle Dockers forward Hayden Ballantyne was killed in a crash in the southern suburbs of Perth.

Brendan Ballantyne, 22, died after being hit by a car during a walk in Waikiki on Saturday night.

The police said he was hit by a silver station wagon running north on Ennis Avenue, about 1 kilometer south of Safety Bay Road, around 21.15.

He suffered life-threatening injuries and died on the spot.

The dockers issued a statement confirming the crash involving a relative of one of their players.

"The dockers of Fremantle want to express their deepest condolences to the Hayden Ballantyne family after his brother Brendan was tragically killed on Saturday night," the statement said.

"Our thoughts are with the Ballantyne family in this extremely difficult time."

A 47-year-old man has been accused of sloppy driving and has caused death on the crash.

He will appear later this month at the Rockingham Magistrates Court.

Major Crash researchers have appealed to anyone who saw the car appear earlier or at the time of the crash.
