Australian wildcard Jason Kubler has continued his stunning return from the tennis wilderness with a first time round US Open victory over the Spanish star Roberta Bautista-Agut.
In a memorable debut debut for the former teen wonder, Kubler defied the conditions to come past the 19th seed 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and seven minutes.
Arranged as 945th in the world this time last year, Kubler's career appeared after six knee operations and medical advice to play only on clay courts.
But after breaking the top 100 for the first time last month, the Queenslander now also enjoys his first victory with a major.
Kubler missed eight years of grand slam action before winning an Australian Open wildcard in January and then successfully qualifying at Wimbledon.
