Here is an overview of the game, via Bandai Namco:
The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of stand-alone, cinematic horror games, designed to regularly present a new terrifying experience. Each game is not connected and contains a whole new story, a new setting and new characters.
A trailer for the first game in the anthology, The Dark Pictures: Man Of Medan, is available here today.
In Man from Medan, four young Americans are sailing on a diving trip to find the rumors location of a wreck from the Second World War. As the day unfolds and a storm breaks in, their journey quickly becomes a little more sinister. Who will live? Who will die?
Players can take on the role of each of the five protagonists, the four Americans and the captain of the boat, each with a different perspective. Explore and discover the mysteries of their frightening situation and be forced to make decisions that will change their lives forever.
Each game is designed to be replayed, with branching storylines, paths and countless endings designed to bring players back for more. Decisions by players are vital for the survival of all characters. With any combination of choices made, this can lead to one of them surviving, dying or getting worse …
"We are incredibly pleased with the Dark Pictures Anthology and the first game in the series – Man from Medan. Because each title is a self-contained game, we have the opportunity to create a unique horror experience every time, with new stories, settings, characters and cast. As a studio we have a passion to deliver powerful cinematic horror, and we can not wait for players to experience these new games on PS4, Xbox and PC. We have a great partner in Bandai Namco Entertainment and we look forward to working with them to bring these terrifying stories to gamers around the world, "said Pete Samuels – CEO Supermassive Games and executive producer of The Dark Pictures.
"We've worked with the great team at Supermassive Games to bring this vision together and we hope fans are just as excited to see the game for the first time on Gamescom – as we've made it," said Hervé Hoerdt – VP Digital and Marketing Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe. "Besides creating fun experiences, we want to be innovative as a company. The Dark Pictures, is the first example of a horror anthology series within the video game world, which positions gaming in a style closer to their favorite TV shows with new, standalone experiences that are regularly brought to fans. It is a daring new model, but we believe fans of both gaming and horror will love it. "
