Manuscripts and private letters from Siegfried Lenz, one of the great writers of German post-war literature, are being auctioned by auction house Schloss Ahlden. The documents of Lenz (1926-2014), according to the auction house, highlight, among other things, the rise of his most important novel "German Lesson & # 39; (1968) about the Nazi period and a misunderstood concept of duty.
The letters and four original manuscripts come from the possession of Elke Ernst, a translator from Darmstadt, who met Lenz in 1966 on a tour of the book. In the following years, an intense friendship followed between the two. The auction is scheduled for 8 September.
