Backup WhatsApp in Google Drive: are your data permanently secured?

Backups from the WhatsApp messenger app stored on Google Drive will no longer be charged for the available space. Previously, back-ups regularly took up storage space and received a portion of the 15-gigabyte quota that every registered Google user receives for free. With intensive use these backups grow rapidly to several gigabytes, especially video & # 39; s and photos are considerable.

The innovation is the result of a collaboration between WhatsApp and Google and will take effect on November 12, 2018. There is only one major limitation: backups that have not been updated for more than a year will be deleted by the Google servers. Users should therefore set a regular backup interval in the WhatsApp settings to prevent data loss. To prevent old backups from being lost, WhatsApp also recommends that you make manual backups before the deadline.

The fact that the WhatsApp backups will no longer consume storage space in the future is positive: more users than before should be encouraged to make regular full backups.
