In the future, some games will receive a new reference on the package. If microtransactions occur in a title, this must also be marked. The innovation is apparently primarily intended for the protection of children and is aimed at parents.
The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) has decided that in the future a new icon will be found on the packaging of games, as reported on the official website. You can see a hand with a credit card, including & # 39; In-Game Purchases & # 39; All titles containing microtransactions must bear the symbol on their packaging in the future. For digitally acquired games this should have appeared earlier.
Still marking in 2018
In addition, the PEGI named the results of a survey, which was also partly carried out in Germany: two in five children of the parents interviewed to spend money on microtransactions. Parents of these parents would have made agreements with the children about these expenses in eight out of ten cases. These include questions about allowing in-game purchases or a fixed weekly limit for money that can be spent.
But not all parents are aware of what micro-transactions are and in which games they exist. Because more and more titles offer this, the labeling of game packaging must now inform about the existence of in-game purchases – and provide more information accordingly.
According to the description of PEGI games, the symbol will probably also appear where you can only buy larger extensions in the game. The innovation therefore probably does not only relate to titles with microtransactions. By the end of 2018 the hint icon will be introduced.
