The portable market is not dead, but does not meet expectations. Especially Android smartwatches have never come out of the shadow of the Apple Watch. This should change. It is said that Google has been busy for some time with its own portable series, which should be launched with three models with pixel fire. But this hope for Wear OS seems to be over by now.

Android smartwatches enjoy only a few exceptions, only conditional popularity. The Apple Watch dominates the entire market, even major manufacturers such as Samsung and Nokia can hardly halt the supremacy of the Californian company. There are many models. At the IFA in Berlin, the watchmaker Casio presented his new outdoor smartwatch. The editors of inside handy had the opportunity to get a first impression in the hands-on of the Casio Pro Trek WSD-F30.

The big hope was therefore Google, because the manufacturer is already more than just the largest search engine in the world. Three Google Pixel smartwatches were expected and the rumor mill hummed. Now, however, an interview on with Google employee Miles Barr takes the wind out of speculation. According to the interview, there will be no Google Smartwatch in 2018. In the spring of 2018, even a market introduction was expected. They would probably have been in planning since mid-2017 Tweets by Evan Blass, a leaky expert in itself, was to present the models in autumn together with the new generation of smartphones and headphones. However, Google has introduced the ability of its assistant to communicate bilingual.

These technical details were expected

Roland Quandt received more details from Winfuture published. The report based on existing documents speaks of three possible models. They have the code name "Ling", "Triton" and "Sardine". The extent to which the different smartwatches differ from each other is not clear. All wearables are however equipped with the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 from Qualcomm. The processor, which is specifically made for wearables, is based on the Snapdragon 212 chip for mobile phones and would have a different function than its predecessor, the Snapdragon Wear 2100. It is called Blackghost and is a particularly efficient program for energy management.

It should therefore be possible for the new smartwatches to address them directly with voice commands. Currently it is still necessary to remove the clocks from the standby mode. Thanks to the better runtime, an always-on display must also be integrated. According to WinFuture, the documents describe the energy-saving mode as "super-economical". Google's smartwatches will include GPS and LTE, as well as VoLTE support, Bluetooth including apt-X, WiFi and a pedometer. Some devices are also equipped with a heart rate monitor. Also 1 GB of RAM is part of the minimum equipment.
