Co-founder of Xiaomi, Lin Bin, has published a photo of the upcoming flagship Mi MIX 3 on Weibu. It shows a smartphone in borderless design, but without display recess. Instead, it has a sliding mechanism.
Xiaomi is considered a pioneer in the field of borderless design, which is currently characterized by most smartphones. Almost two years ago, the Mi MIX introduced a virtually borderless smartphone that has now also landed in the Munich design museum. After the MIX 2 and the MIX 2S, the manufacturer plans to introduce the Mi MIX 3 in October.
Xiaomi co-founder and President Lin Bin gives a first impression of the device. He has placed a photo on Weibo that most likely shows the Mi MIX 3. Displayed is a smartphone whose front almost completely consists of the screen, surrounded by margins a few millimeters wide. At first glance it looks like the top is quite wide. However, this is deceptive. Instead, this is a sliding mechanism that moves out of the housing and contains the front camera. The photo looks like the loudspeaker and other sensors are on the rear slider. This would mean that the mechanism that looks like the Oppo Find X is not only activated when taking photos, but also for calling.
For the further equipment features, there is still no secure information. However, it is speculated that Xiaomi, like other providers in front of him, will attach the fingerprint sensor under the display glass. In the previous models this is on the back, which has a negative effect when the device is on the table and you want to unlock it. Then you have to pick it up to unlock it with a fingerprint or enter the pin code. However, Xiaomi can also dispense with a fingerprint sensor and use a face recognition-based unlock method, such as Apple and Oppo is used.
If the device is presented in October, most likely Android 9 can be used in combination with MIUI 10. Finally, there is already a beta version available for the predecessor model Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S.
In contrast to the Mi 8 (pictured right), Xiaomi leaves a display notch (Notch) on the Mi MIX 3 and its predecessor Mi MIX 2S (on the left). There is therefore more space available for notification symbols and status indicators at the top edge (Image: ZDNet.de).
