Red Bull has a successor for Daniel Ricciardo
SALZBURG. As expected, Red Bull Racing has named Frenchman Pierre Gasly as the second regular driver for the upcoming Formula 1 season.
The 22-year-old, now in the B-team Toro Rosso behind the wheel, replaced in 2019 with the one-man team of Dietrich Mateschitz the emigration to the Renault-Australian Daniel Ricciardo. Gasly becomes Red Bull teammate of the Dutchman Max Verstappen.
Thus the hierarchy of the Austrian-English team, which became world champion with Sebastian Vettel four times in a row between 2010 and 2013, has been clarified at least for the time being. Young star Verstappen (20) is two years younger than Gasly, but has been racing in Formula 1 since 2015 and has already won four races.
"Everything seemed clear"
Motorsport consultant Helmut Marko was amazed by Ricciardo's decision in the ServusTV show "Sport and Talk from Hangar-7": "Everything seemed clear to him, we improved, he wanted to draw and then he called and said he was going to Renault because he needed a different environment. "
