theMost halogen lamps will be offered for sale in the European Union from 1 September. The decision is already old: it was taken in 2009. Initially the prohibition was planned for the autumn of 2016 and was postponed to two years.
Halogen lamps are very greedy, but not very effective: nearly 90% of the energy consumed produces heat, not light. The European Commission recommends giving preference to LED lamps, which are more expensive to buy, but ultimately more economical because they are more efficient and have a much longer lifespan.
