Brussels and Flanders ask for a tax shelter for the videogame sector

Flemish Minister of Media Sven Gatz (Open VLD) and Brussels Foreign Trade secretary Cécile Jodogne (Challenge) said during their visit to the Gamescom in Cologne, a large video games exhibition.

"On a global scale, this sector is more important than that of music and cinema together, but this is only getting worse, both from an economic and a social point of view"says Sven Gatz. "Development is exponential, both in the world and in our country, Brussels and Belgium must be part of these developments"insists on Cecile Jodogne. A total of thirty Belgian companies are present at Gamescom, of which twenty are on the Belgian stand.

They specialize in the development of video games or services around the world. In the Scandinavian countries, video games have a much higher turnover than in Belgium. Policy makers therefore see more financial support as a means to relieve the sector.
