It is chaos in the ring of Charleroi. Motorists are stopped. A large black smoke that prevents good visibility. "Fire broke out near the old Delbrassine settlements," says Michel Mean, spokesperson for the fire brigade in the Henegouwen rescue zone. "An old tank caught fire and tires burn on a railway dependency."
The blaze caused a large amount of black smoke, visible for several miles around, which meant that the security services had to partially close the R9, part of which was just above the firebox.
According to firefighters it is assumed that the fire, which took place at a disused location not far from the Delbrassine establishments in the vicinity of the Chaussée de Bruxelles in Dampremy, is of criminal origin. The fire was apparently extinguished in an old oil tank that still contains a little fuel and various types of waste, such as tires.
