Ukkel mentioned common fair trade

Brussels

It will be the 7th Brussels municipality to receive the label.

After Watermael-Boitsfort, Ixelles, Saint-Gilles, Etterbeek, Jette and the city of Brussels, Uccle will be officially this Tuesday evening, the 7th commune of Brussels, to receive the label of the common fair trade.

For several years, the city council, via its alderman for the environment Marc Cools, has been conducting campaigns to promote fair trade, because according to the municipality it is still too little known to the general public. The city council itself has done a lot of work to integrate fair trade into its purchases.

An example of many of these partners is the Young Global Store at St. Pierre College. They are students running a small cafeteria that serves 100% honest drinks and snacks.

More recently, the Commune has been actively involved in the Common Fair Trade campaign to raise awareness among people in this area. As a reminder, fair trade helps to ensure decent working conditions and a reasonable income for workers in southern countries, and many of the foods we eat every day can be derived from this alternative to traditional trade.

a
Fairtrade card with the various partners of the campaign is available on the website of the municipality. The label will be presented to the municipality of Uccle on Tuesday, August 28, at a reception in the town hall.
