POLYMER AND SARAMPO
Parents and carers must take small children to prevent disease
Of the 79 municipalities in Mato Grosso do Sul, six had to expand the National Vaccination Campaign against Poliomyelitis and Measles because they did not meet the target of 95% of the target population. The balance released today by the State Department of Health confirmed the immunization of 98% of children aged 1 to 5 years, ie 156 thousand children received doses of vaccines. Of the municipalities that reached the established index, 50% vaccinated 100% of the small ones.
The cities of Aquidauana, Brasilândia, Campo Grande, Itaporã, Jaraguari and Terenos have to be met next Sunday. The aim of the Campaign is to maintain high immunization coverage against paralysis of children in municipalities and to prevent the reintroduction of wild polio virus. In 2017, Mato Grosso do Sul achieved a vaccination rate of 88%.
The vaccination schedule of the National Vaccination Calendar consists of three doses of Poliomyelitis Inactivated Vaccine (VIP), administered at two, four and six months of age, with oral polio vaccine (OPV0) at 15 months and at age four. In Brazil, the Ministry of Health registered 95.56% of vaccinations against measles and 95.64% against Polio.
Slightly more than 2,000 children must receive doses to reach the 95% goal in Campo Grande. Of the 13,728 1-year-old children who were to be immunized, only 10,481 received the dose against Poliomyelitis, representing 76.35%, and to prevent measles vaccinated 10,310, and reaching 75.10%. In the other age groups (two, three and four years) the target of 95% was reached or exceeded.
"This age group is the one who is most concerned when they are not vaccinated, because the immune system is in the development phase and can present the serious forms of the disease and can even cause death. In addition, these little ones start to get in touch with other children who promote the infection ".
This year, 21 suspected cases of measles were reported in the capital. Only one case (3-year-old child) was examined by Sesau and the others were discarded.
