More than a necessary and pleasant break in routine, tea time can bring us many benefits. This is because the fluid has therapeutic properties that combat some of the most important problems of modernity, such as stress, bloating, insomnia. Teas also help with digestion, speed up the metabolism and are, due to the high water content, very moisturizing drinks, able to reduce mood and improve the appearance of the skin.

We spoke to nutritionists Deise Passos and Karol Coelho, who show in a practical way how tea can work for the benefit of the body, skin and mind and by breaking them up, indicating which species can satisfy each of their personal needs.

From the inside

It is not surprising that every type of tea has specific properties. In general, however, the best known are the antioxidant, diuretic, calming and stimulating actions.

For example, lemon balm, chamomile, valerian root and green tea have a high antioxidant capacity, which helps fight free radicals (caused by pollution, radiation, chemicals), which are responsible for the aging of the skin.

Green tea is even one of the best allies in the fight against cellular aging, thanks to the high presence of so-called flavonoids, substances that help to neutralize these radicals in their composition.

These teas work hypotensive: they help lower blood pressure, soothe and relax the nervous system and facilitate the vascular processes of the body. The consequences of this are an improvement in the appearance of cellulite, bumps in general and dark circles.

Although diuretic teas (such as horse mackerel, elderberry and sesame) have substances that help the kidneys function properly, those with caffeine in their composition (such as black tea) stimulate the central nervous system, accelerate blood flow, and thus blood pressure.

From the outside

In addition to promoting the benefits already mentioned, there are also teas that are able to work on the improvement of the skin, if applied directly. The best-known category is chamomile tea, which is the latest in skincare due to calming effects and anti-inflammatory properties.

It can make compresses with chamomile tea to relieve itching and redness of sensitive skin and reduce dark circles caused by the dilation of the blood vessels. Another alternative is to use chilled chamomile tea as a replacement for thermal water. With a refreshing effect it is a good request for moments after sun exposure, epilation and skin cleansing.

Green tea is also a great anti-inflammatory when applied to the skin, relieves pain caused by inflamed acne, regulates the redness and swelling of the face.

If the goal is to make a facial detoxification, the recommended tea is lemongrass, which helps to treat blackheads and pimples and, by breaking, regulates the natural oiliness of the skin. Finally, opt for lavender tea if you want to soften infections in the skin. And be careful: do not forget to consult your dermatologist when using tea as a treatment for the skin. Listen to a professional opinion before putting your hand in the dough.

Watch the clock:

Although it is useful to be taken at any time of the day, it is worth to change the clock – the biological and the analogue – and to plan the body to have the tea that has more to do with every moment of the routine.

For example, if you prefer to take it in the morning, keep in mind that the effect is antioxidant, as well as improving mood, promoting increased energy and concentration. For this, go for stimulating recipes such as green tea, black tea, mate, moringa tea, orange peel with cinnamon, cardamom and mint with ginger.

In the afternoon, when the intention is to help with digestion of the body or to improve the disposition, take a cup after meals and choose the teas of mint, boldo, fennel, ginger and espinheira-santa .

To relax at night, to be passionate and to improve sleep quality, is the tip to break free from the outside world and to take teas like chamomile, melissa, mulungu and lemon balm with calming effects.

As with every healthy habit, the benefits of taking tea are increased in combination with a well-being routine. In order for the tea to have an effect, you must try to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, with the presence of fruit, vegetables and a moderate consumption of dairy and red meat, as well as investing time and disposition in regular practice. of physical exercises.

Habits such as daily drinking water, always cleansing the skin and taking off the make-up and ensuring mental and spiritual health – that is, seeking help when needed, and maintaining positive thoughts and optimistic feelings – also helps a lot. The experts also emphasize the importance of a good night's sleep, even capable of preventing diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and depression.

Remember that, as with any excess, taking tea in an exaggerated way can be very harmful to your health, headaches, nausea, dizziness and, in more serious cases, liver problems. To give the drink no toxic effect, consume up to three cups of tea per day.
