A good news for São José do Rio Preto (SP), the number of larvae of the mosquito dengue fever.
The health department of Rio Preto released on Friday (17) the result of the Breteau index in the municipality, calculated in July, which was 1.1 and was positively assessed by the pulp. In April of this year the index stood at 1.2 and in January at 6.7.
The Breteau index is a numerical value that defines the amount of Aedes aegypti in the larval phase found in the dwellings and serves as a reference for measuring the level of mosquito infestation. The Ministry of Health defines indexes as ideal or lower than 1.0.
To ensure that the index is gradually reduced throughout the year, the Health Department is continuously implementing actions to combat Aedes, who dengue fever, zika and chikungunya. Actions include eliminating breeding grounds and larvicide treatment during health worker visits and endings to homes, businesses and land. In addition, the city administration carries out intersectoral actions, such as cleaning buildings with sanitary risks and cleaning public roads.
Gonzaga de Campos is one of the areas with the highest incidence of infection and managed to lower the Breteau index from 16.3 in January to 1.59 in July. The result was achieved by the daily work of the agents and the execution of the Brigade Against the Aedes Project, which brought together employees from companies in the area to examine and eliminate weekly breeding sites at those locations. "Given the success of this action, the project will be extended to other industrial areas in the city," says Abner Alves, manager of environmental management.
The next Breteau index is calculated in October.
