534 people have been tested free and anonymous for HIV / AIDS since the beginning of the year in the specialized cabinet of the regional health inspectorate in Varna, said Dr Yanka Draganova, head of the Infectious Diseases Surveillance Directorate. Of these, 352 are men, the rest are women. 7 of the people who tested their HIV status were tested positive. We do not know if they come from Varna, we can study everyone, explained Dr. Draganova out. Positive samples were paid for confirmation in a specialized laboratory in Sofia.

Varna is included in the National Summer Anti-AIDS Campaign with open doors and free counseling and research, Dr. Draganova said. This will continue until 15 September. Everyone can consult HIV / AIDS free of charge and study in room 501 of RHI on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 12 noon and from 12.30 pm to 4 pm. On 4 and 11 September, Mobile Cabinet will be conducting express tests from 3 pm to 5 pm in front of one of the shopping centers in Varna. We work with the municipality and NGOs to whom condoms, lubricants and health equipment and brochures have been distributed, Dr Draganova said.

There are 13 free cabinets and anonymous counseling and HIV testing (RAC) in the country. They conduct pre-test and post-test consultations by trained medical specialists. From the beginning of the year to July, more than 162,000 people were surveyed across the country, according to the Ministry of Health.
Between 1986 and 03.08.2018, a total of 2,876 people with HIV infection were registered in Bulgaria. 161 new serotypes have been found since the beginning of this year. The trend of recent years has ensured that the number of newly registered representatives of the strong sex is many times greater than that of the mild-mannered. The ratio of men and women this year is 6: 1 (139 men and 22 women).

This year was most affected by the age group 30-39 years – 44%, followed by the age group 20-29 years – 25%.

The incidence of newly registered cases of HIV infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the EU and EEA countries in 2016 is 5.7, for Bulgaria the indicator is 2.8. That is to say, our country has a double prevalence of HIV among the EU and EEA countries, says the MH.

The tendency of recent years has been preserved on the path of infection. In the current year, 90% of the newly registered HIV is sexually infected. In 9% of cases, this was done with injecting drug use.

As of July 31, 2018, a total of 1,430 HIV patients were followed in the HIV / AIDS treatment sectors and 1,334 (93%) received modern antiretroviral therapy. All necessary tests and consumables are available. Antiretroviral therapy prolongs patients' lives and improves the quality of their lives.

Five sectors for the treatment of HIV / AIDS patients in infectious clinics in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Pleven and Stara Zagora have been identified and are working.
