Scientists unmask supplements with omega-3 fatty acids

Dietary supplements with omega-3 fatty acids, such as those present in fish and recommended to prevent cardiovascular disease, do not actually protect diabetics against such problems, AFP reported.

Scientists at the University of Oxford have examined 15,000 diabetics without cardiovascular disease. They followed for an average of seven years, gave half a capsule of omega-3 fatty acids and the others with olive oil.

Cases of serious cardiovascular events, cancer or death are about the same in both groups, reported BTA.

Another January 2018 study, which included 78,000 people, concluded that omega-3 fatty acids do not prevent cardiovascular disease in people with increased risk.
