The new warehouse of 154,000 square meters opens Wednesday morning at 8:00 and becomes the 100th Canadian location of Costco.
The new range of shops is expected to increase traffic in the area. Airport officials anticipate extra traffic on area roads, at least on weekends.
"Typical peak-trade traffic also takes place at different times of the day than peak vehicle traffic to the airport, but during the first few days that the EIA Costco will be open, additional people will arrive at the store early, some of whom may have their first find their way into the EIA, "the airport said Tuesday in a press release. .
"This can produce extra traffic volume from August 22 to August 26."
Edmonton Transit, Leduc Transit and EIAs On Airport Transit will deliver buses to the Costco warehouse. Additional traffic controllers are also called in.
The new Nisku Costco, with a gas station and liquor store, is located near the QEII Highway at Airport Road. It is located north of the EIA shopping center Premium Outlet Collection, which opened in May.
