A 39-year-old man died after a police stay in the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce commune.
The Montreal police were called to the intersection of Montclair Avenue and De Maisonneuve Boulevard for a fight that broke out between two men.
One of the men involved in the fight went to an officer. The police say he used what looked like a knife.
That is when the police opened fire. According to Quebec's Office of Independent Investigations (BEI), which is now in charge of the case, the officers first tried to subject the man to an anesthetic rifle but were unsuccessful.
Then an officer opened fire.
The man was rushed to the hospital, where his death was confirmed.
For each protocol, the police handed over the case to the BEI, the body charged with handling investigations when people are injured or killed during police operations.
