The Toronto police say that a man suffered his injuries after being wedged between an SUV and a garbage truck in Etobicoke on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called after 20.00 to Twenty Sixth Street near Elder Avenue, north of Lake Shore Boulevard West.
A spokesperson for Toronto Paramedics said the man was brought to a trauma center in a critical condition.
The police said Wednesday night in an update that the man, who was in his fifties, then died from his injuries.
Toronto police said that collision reconstruction researchers are being turned on to look at the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the police, Twenty Sixth Street is closed between Laburnham and the older roads for the investigation.
