Brooke Henderson's historical victory at the Canadian Women's Open has proudly filled her hometown fans.
"I think the whole world could hear Smiths Falls scream from the rooftops when she made that well," said Jennifer Aunger-Ritchie.
The real estate broker of Smiths Falls said she has two young daughters, four and seven, who learned the game during the Brooke Henderson junior program on the Smiths Falls golf course.
"You often hear them say that I will be the next Brooke," said Aunger-Ritchie.
Aunger-Ritchie thinks that the success of Henderson will lead to more girls signing up to play.
"It's really important to have a woman to look up, especially for little girls who want to play golf."
Teenagers Harry Fleming and Aidan Desormeaux left in a cart for a game of golf on Monday. They say it's amazing & # 39; is that a world-class golfer learned the tricks of the trade.
"That girl came from here and now she has won tournaments," said Fleming, astonished, shaking his head.
Fleming said that he saw badges in the club's parking lot outside the city, as the 20-year-old golfer started to make a name on the LPGA circuit.
Desormeaux said that Henderson's winning ways have added cachet to playing the job.
"It's like playing on the same ice as your favorite NHLer, or your favorite footballer on the same pitch." She walked over here. "
"She will be one of the best sports heroes in Canada," said golf pro Paul Vaillancourt, who recognized Henderson's natural talent when she was only five years old.
"When I saw her waving with the club, I knew immediately that she was going to make a career in golf, I knew that right away," Vaillancourt said.
"I knew she would win the Canadian Open one day," he said. "I just did not think it would be that fast."
Golfer Randall Dunlop said Henderson has the kind of traits that all Canadians should follow.
"I think the strength and courage she showed, especially in the 18th hole, was a moment of transformation for Canada," Dunlop said.
Ten-year-old Jack Dinsmore practiced his putting with his grandfather. He said that he dreamed of growing up to be a pro, and Henderson makes that dream possible.
"She played very well," Dismore said. "I want to play like that too."
