The developer of the multiplayer game Dota 2, Valve Corporation has announced where its next Dota 2 World Championship, The International 9, will take place. In a video that takes a quick look at all past championships, it is finally revealed that the event will take place in 2019 in Shanghai.
At The International 8, when the final between Evil Geniuses and PSG.LGD approached, Valve made the announcement. This was seen by people as a rather unconventional move by the company because it was not very open in the past about revealing the locations of the upcoming tournament.
It is no surprise that Shanghai was the chosen location for two reasons. First, Shanghai will soon be home to hundreds of companies in the esports, while the city will open a special business park aimed at local and international companies for esports, according to a report by Shine. Two, which have been some of the best players in the championship in the recent past from China.
The dates for the event have not yet been announced.
This year two new heroes, Grimstroke and Mars, were announced as new playable characters for Dota 2, and you can now play Grimstroke if you wish.
Grimstroke was made available on August 24 and you can tell from the trailer that his weapon is a deadly brush that "marks your fate". "Graceful, refined, cunning and cruel, Grimstroke channels horrendous forces by the profane ink of his run-binding brush," describes his character page on the official website.
