A 42-year-old man died today after he threw himself into the Loa River and tried to save a 10-year-old girl who is missing after running to the river.
The information was confirmed by the Mayor of Calama, Daniel Agusto, in 24 hours. "A girl fell into the river, unfortunately, eager to save her, the father threw himself into the water and with this situation he lost his life," he said. Firefighters and the Carabineros Gope work on the spot to find the minor.
The river had a flood product of the rains registered in the north of the country, in the middle of the high-level winter.
"We from yesterday and today in the morning have determined the situation in the villages and the current has actually increased.In fact, the current was already present in the municipality of Calama, especially in the sectors that crossed the river through the city," Agusto added.
Meanwhile, according to Onemi in the municipality of San Pedro de Atacama 10 houses have been reported with minor damage due to rainfall. According to the information provided by the National Emergency Office of the Ministry of the Interior, the yellow warning is maintained for the province of El Loa and the municipality of Antofagasta.
