Studies: the summer ends with 25% more eating disorders



The insurance comparator Acierto.com explains the reasons for this increase and provides guidelines for the treatment in this respect

Despite the fact that the summer brings several benefits, many citizens do not take the high temperatures as well. And we're not just talking about the heat, but just about illuminating the wardrobe and exposing certain parts of his anatomy. Yes, because the care for the physical aspect and the extra kilos causes concern for the Spaniards.

So much so that, according to the latest report from the health insurance company Acierto.com, almost half of Spaniards say they have been on a diet once in life, and not only that, but even 61.5% are worried about the calories they eat. And while 54% only try to eat a balanced diet, a worrying 7.5% count the calories that are put in the mouth. Unfortunately, this behavior can lead to more serious problems such as eating disorders.

Precisely, the entity has recorded an increase of up to 25% of the cases that attended this summer; an increase that is not new every year and which takes place every year especially during the first and last weeks of the summer. Although these are global figures, bulimia and anorexia are postulated as the protagonists of hospital admissions, especially this second, whose incidence is also higher in rural areas – urban centers.

This is estimated in larger numbers up to 70 million people worldwide suffer from food pathologies, and that 85% is female. The profile of the affected type is exactly that of a young woman between the ages of 13 and 25, although the spectrum (as forged in recent years) is expanding and an increase in the number of men is being appreciated.

More than half of the insurance comparator's respondents even admitted that they were targeting the aesthetics gym to "look great" instead of being motivated to improve their health. The cult for the body and for the healthy diet, the importance of the image and the association of concepts such as the thinness of success have much to see, but of course the self perception and affective dysfunctions of the patient's own. The most common eating disorders in this are vigorexia and orthorexia.

In the anterior chamber of his development we usually find sexual abuse, family drop-out, strict dieting and more. The symptoms are varied and depend on each specific disease, but in general terms patients use food as a form of control or satisfaction. The restrictions, compulsive eating, vomiting, etc. are common.
