Aguas Magallanes recovers drinking water production in Puerto Natales to restore the system this morning
Aguas Magallanes reports that since this afternoon it has resumed the production of drinking water in Puerto Natales, thanks to the fact that the color of the raw water from the Dumestre estuary has fallen to a level that makes it possible to produce water for sanitary consumption. for the population. That is, 80 color units, which reached a peak of 120 color units in the early morning, in the context of the climatic phenomenon that affected the area.
In this context, 1,428 of the 7,768 customers of Puerto Natales still have no offer that would normally normalize Tuesday night. The committed area corresponds to the sectors of Av. España, Emilio Ibáñez and Villa Campos de Hielo. However, the company reinforces its call to use this water only for sanitary purposes and not to drink it until the contingency is complete.
In the meantime, the 18 drinking water supply points are still available, which are supplied with 10 water tanks, which have supplied 200 thousand liters of water to the residents of the municipality.
The staff of Aguas Magallanes remains deployed in the field to restore the systems, in coordination with Onemi and the government of Ultima Esperanza.
Finally, the company is considering new investments to address these types of extreme color episodes in the Dumestre estuary, which has been in force last year due to climate change and water production is not safe for the population when they occur.
