The communities of the municipality of Juradó in Chocó are at risk due to the actions of illegal armed groups.

The Ombudsman of Colombia reiterated an appeal to the government to protect the indigenous and Afro descendants of the municipality of Juradó, Chocó, against the presence and threats of the so-called illegal armed group called the Gaitanista Autodefense of Colombia (AGC) in that area.

As the entity states in a statement, there is an "immediate threat of mass displacement" in this congregation after a number of cases occurred last Sunday, "when about 20 Indians of Santa Marta de Curiche, Guarín district, were detained and ill-treated during a couple of hours. "

The Ombudsman also pointed out that armed men arrived at a farm on the same day, "mistreated the workers and stole various objects."

In the community of Santamarta de Curiche, in the Guarin district, they detained and abused three indigenous people. "In this area there is a confinement of at least 300 families," confirms the entity.

In addition to these events, approximately 40 people were held incommunicado on July 4, detained and threatened in the village of Patajoná.

The Ombudsman's office said that it will continue in the area that accompanies the population and denounces possible violations of their human rights.
