Will there be a war against water?
If there will be something war in the future, it is not about oil, but about water. Today it is clear that water is now partly responsible for the migration crisis. In some areas, water supplies are very fast, for example on the Arabian peninsula. Let's see how quickly the water came to South Africa or California, where it was unthinkable. Water was devouring, everyone had lawns with artificial irrigation. Today there are dry patrols that regulate the use of water, and the water is literally in the ration. The effects of climate change on the global dimension are unthinkable. It is something you must respect, prepare for it.
How would this affect the Czech Republic?
Because we are talking about the migration crisis. If hundreds of millions of people move because water shortages mean indifference and famine, this would of course affect us as if it were affecting all of Europe. But let us now give up the global crisis scenario. We keep the impact of climate change that we experience. Nobody doubts the weather undoubtedly. There are many indications that we are experiencing a trend where the effects of global climate change on the Czech Republic are only ten years ago, and many have waited for it in decades. But we are in 2018 and are faced with a record drought.
What the hell? Together with the Ministry of Agriculture, you are preparing an amendment to the Water Act, to build ponds, to restore the flow. Is that enough?
We started preparing specific measures, we have restored hundreds of water tanks, wetlands, swimming pools. We have drawn up specific programs for municipalities. We have taken measures in the countryside to revitalize the streams. The biggest reserves are in agricultural and forest areas. The Czech Republic has been steadily draining water for a hundred years. We have to hold her to stay and run away so quickly. To sink into the subsoil, it is like an iron store, it does not dry out and it stays there as if it were in the barrel. We should use rainwater better as a substitute for drinking water. It is a barbarity to flush the toilet with drinking water. But most households have to do this, of course, because almost no one has ever solved the two watercourses.
People in big cities began to take water for granted
Do the Czechs have wastewater?
I am convinced that they do not waste much of it. But until it does not happen to turn the tap and nothing flows, so many people feel that we have enough water. In Prague we take it for granted that the largest reservoir in Central Europe Želivka, which is connected with one and a half million people, saves us. Because it is full, we tend to think that drought does not concern us. But you go a little further, where people are connected to local sources and wells that have not been dried for a hundred years, and now there is no water. People in big cities began to take water for granted, which is not discussed. We need to appreciate that water more. Education is important, inspiration in Israel. There he prays for the water. Children in school have the basis in the civil doctrine that water is the basis.
Should there be something similar in schools in our country?
Certainly. Unfortunately, ecological education in some former governments was almost an indecent word, but education for people to enjoy nature is absolutely normal and much needed. Children must take it for granted that water is not wasted and that it is important to protect water.
Water is not cheap in our country. On the contrary
How should people save in cities? When showering and washing utensils?
The Czech Republic has reduced its water consumption per capita by half in the past fifteen years. For one person, the average consumption is about 86 liters per day. This is not a high consumption. People do not waste it deliberately. Someone says: raise the water to prevent it from being wasted. But water is not cheap in the Czech Republic. On the contrary. We want to get more water. But people should be given the opportunity to use rainwater where they can replace rarer drinking water.

How can a man do it in a panel?
There is more difficulty. That is why we are talking today about how we can adjust the building law. A number of developers are building new houses with new functions today – such as underground rainwater tanks or double channels. It is clear that people today will not break the bathrooms in older houses to make new water. But you can save yourself with more fuel-efficient appliances. The easiest way is to have a toilet with two rinse options or perlators on the water tap. And showering is also more economical than a bath.
I have wondered about the use of drinking water by spray-boats
If we solve the waste of water, I am terrified of the fact that in Prague, in the streets, I see sprinkler trucks spraying the street with drinking water in 35 degrees of heat. The asphalt is dry for two minutes and it is not known, and next to it is a very dry lawn. What is the point?
I have wondered about the use of drinking water by spray-boats. But according to our information there is a hygienic problem. But it is fun for people, the car creates water fog, people will appreciate it. Cities have made thermal islands because of their concrete and asphalt, there is five degrees higher temperature than in the countryside and in the village. We create the islands here, where there will be no time on the streets, because when the ambient temperature is 30 degrees, the city will be forty. I understand that scattering streets do not look like people who have little water, but in general it does not have a dramatic impact. It is more of a symbol. We lose a lot more water elsewhere. Drinking water, which is often outdated, loses up to 17 percent of the water. It is less than in the past, but it is still billions of liters per year.
The world has literally faded through plastics
Another ecological issue is the restriction of plastic products. Plastic straws, disposable dishes, should be banned for the future. Will it help?
The world has literally faded through plastics. Plastic is a good servant, but the evil lord and humanity have ended up in a situation in which they were subjected to crazy domination. We find it normal to sell three quarters of a billion cups of coffee every day in Europe, and we throw the cup ten meters away in the trash can. In addition, many of these products are non-recyclable. That's horrible. Everyone knows those shots from the oceans. Even Czechs go to destinations where there are plastic floods. It may happen that in 2050 there will be more volumes of fish than the fish in the seas.

What the hell?
The worst are disposable plastics and their excessive use. We support all restrictions on plastic products, whether they are disposable dishes or cups and earplugs. We have launched the project "We are plastic", in which we work together with companies to find ways to limit the use of plastics as much as possible. We want to show that if there are alternatives, why not use them. It's a lot about young people. They are looking for alternatives to not burden the environment so much, it becomes a style. We see companies that see a competitive advantage. When a concert organizer or other action requires the use of only half-award winning crucibles, it is clear that this plastic waste will drastically reduce around.
It has brought us long into Europe before we realized it. But what about Asia? There the plastic still produces 50 percent more.
You are right, the shocking images of literally plastic rivers often come from India, Pakistan and other countries. But look for China. Until recently, it was a mess of the world, and millions of tons of plastic packaging were exported annually, often from Europe. Suddenly, China decided it would end and the strategy would soon change. Some states can switch quickly and overtake Europe. In addition, there are draconian punishments for violations. When you spit chewing gum on the street in Singapore, there are thousands of dollars in fines. I would say, let's transcend our own threshold and learn others. Europe also faces a huge challenge to make more recycled plastics and make the best use of them.
