Google has fixed a bug in Gmail that caused multiple emails to be accidentally sent from accounts.
The bug came to light earlier this week when Google’s forum was inundated with complaints, claiming that once sent messages ended up in the recipient’s inbox again and again.
One poster wrote, “My company uses Google Apps and we have this problem enormously. It will soon cost us business … We can’t afford for our employees to communicate with our customers this way. Google Apps is for has been nothing but a disaster for us. “
However, Google claimed to have fixed the problem in just a few days, with the Apps Status Dashboard showing that everything was fine with the email service.
“At this point, no more duplicate emails should be sent and any new messages you send now should not be affected by this issue,” Google employee MrEvan wrote on the forum.
He claimed the last double email should have been at 10:27 p.m. Pacific Time (6:30 a.m. BST) last night.
MrEvan added, “I also have friends and professional contacts and I absolutely understand the value of those relationships and how very frustrating it could be to unintentionally harass some of those people.”
“While I can’t take the messages back with some sort of magical Undo Send, I have my condolences for your situation. Please understand that the Gmail team has worked tirelessly to investigate this issue and fix it for you.”
THE PRO contacted Google for more information on why the error occurred, but it had not responded to our request at the time of publishing.
