August 22, 2018 – Unconfirmed reports spread across the Internet and claim that an arrest warrant was issued against Ethiopia's former intelligence service, Getachew Assefa.
Online media such as ESAT, Addis Neger and Borkena.com report that Getachew Assefa was not present at the just-concluded regular meeting of the Executive Committee of the Ethiopian People & # 39; s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF). According to reports, his whereabouts are unknown at the moment.
If this is true, this will mean a new step towards a further deterioration of the relations between the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the rest of the EPRDF.
It is also reported that about forty federal police officers held this month at Mekelle Alula Aba Nega International Airport were ordered to deliver arrest warrants to persons such as Getachew Assefa. They would have been released a few days ago and returned to Addis Ababa without success.
Getachew Assefa is one of the members of the nine-man police office of the TPLF. He has been chief detective of Ethiopia since 2001.
He was relieved of his duty in June of this year by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and then appointed security adviser for the new prime minister.
