World premiere: a building that can do without heating in St-Priest-en-Jarez

It is a creation by the architect of Etienne, Julien Rivat. He designed the new dialysis medical center "Artic 42" near Champirol in Saint-Priest-en-Jarez, near the North Hospital.

This building has a special function: almost no heating and electricity bills. It is a world first. It consumes only 120 kW per M2 and per year. That is a very low consumption for this building of 4200 M2.

"Artic 42" gets the label "Passive". This requires an air seal that is 7 to 8 times larger than the current regulations and that uses up to 15 kW / m2 / year for heating. This is 75% less than the energy that is consumed in a building with current standards.

To save energy, the architectural firm of Etienne Julien Rivat will work on the orientation of the building to make the most of the natural solar gain.

The windows have triple glazing, mostly on the south. In the summer, sunscreens will be installed to prevent heat. The walls are 26 cm thick. The roofs are 30 cm thick. Dialysis machines can replace the heating in the winter with the heat they emit. This monument represents an investment of eight million euros.
