A couple of women holding hands were attacked on Friday night by a gang of girls in the Part-Dieu district of Lyon, reports Le Progrès.
One of them was wounded in the face by a cutter.
The gang is said to have made homophobic insults. One of the two young women, a gendarme, told them that their behavior was unjust.
Then a series of punches follows and one of them is injured next to the face by a cutter.
An arrest, seven others wanted
A young woman was quickly arrested. She denied the facts in custody although a cutter could be found on her. It must be presented to the judge on Sunday, police say. The others, seven according to Le Parisien, are still in demand.
An investigation was opened by the public prosecutor's office in Lyon. It has not yet made clear whether the homophobic nature of the attack has been preserved.
The number of complaints for homophobic acts increased in France last year. According to the Ministry of the Interior, 262 complaints were filed between January and September 2018, 15% more than in 2017.
