Bus accident on A73: Several injured – rescue helicopter in action
There were two people in the car. The woman was taken to hospital with a life-threatening injury, as the emergency services reported on Sunday. Her co-driver was seriously injured and came to the clinic with a rescue helicopter. Both had to be cut out of the small car according to the police. Earlier, the fire brigade had informed that the woman had flown in with the rescue helicopter, which was later corrected.
Cause still unclear
Why the car was driving the wrong way on the highway is still unclear. As a spokesman for the police said, the accident happened near a motorway junction in the city of Nuremberg on the left lane. "There was only a few minutes between the message that a wrong driver was on the road and the collision," said a police spokesman. At first he did not want to say anything about the identity of the two people in the car. The highway was closed in the direction of Schwabach.
Shock for the young players
The youth team, the U16 from SpVgg Greuther Fürth, traveled with their coach and their companions to a friendly match in Augsburg. The boys stepped away. "At first glance we had adversity," said club spokesperson Immanuel Kästlen of the German press agency. "Three of our boys came to the hospital as a precaution, but apparently none of them were seriously injured." The police spoke about seven slightly injured teenagers. The bus driver also suffered minor injuries according to the police and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
"That was a shock for the boys, of course," said Kästlen. Coach and supervisor would have responded in an exemplary way and have taken good care of the approximately 15-year-old adolescents. Some parents were also very quick on the spot, because they were also on their way to Augsburg to accompany their sons to the race. The friendly game was canceled after the major accident.
The traffic police inspection Nuremberg recorded the accident. The total damage amounts to a first estimate of 20,000 euros.
